Agriculture is more than a way of life in Uganda, it is the backbone of many communities. Yet, despite the country’s fertile land, many farmers still struggle with outdated practices, limited access to resources, and the impact of unpredictable weather.
At Adilang Vocational Training Institute (AVTI), change is taking root. Through our agriculture program, students gain hands-on experience in sustainable farming, soil conservation, and modern agricultural technologies. They practice crop rotation, pest control, and efficient irrigation systems. Beyond the farm, they are trained in financial literacy and market access, preparing them to not only grow food but also build thriving agri-businesses.
A major boost to this program has been the establishment of a new agriculture laboratory, generously donated to AVTI. This lab gives students the chance to conduct research and experiments in a real rural setting, using locally available technologies. It bridges classroom learning with field application, enabling young farmers to test innovative methods that directly address the challenges faced in their communities.
The impact is already visible across Adilang. Graduates are cultivating diverse crops, achieving higher yields, and ensuring their families and neighbors have enough to eat. Surplus produce is sold in local markets, giving them income while contributing to the local economy.
This journey from the school farm to the market is a testament to the power of education, innovation, and community support. With every new graduate, agriculture in Adilang grows stronger and more sustainable.
At the Dongo Paco Foundation, we are proud to walk alongside AVTI in this transformation and remain committed to expanding opportunities for young people to learn, innovate, and thrive.
