Empowering Tailors and Designers in Adilang-Agago District.

Fashion Show

After School, some of Adilang Vocational training School Alumni’s under tailoring, went back home with good grades but didn’t have the resources to put skills attained into use. Dongo Paco Foundation limited thought of having a project called Dongo Paco tailors and designers, where the alumni tailors would have one year of apprenticeship hence acquiring more hands on skills/experiences and resources to start a decent life.

The project has been operational since July 2024, business hadn’t yet picked up to the expectation of the tailors, different ways were tabled to boost sales but what stood up as a remedy was the fashion show idea. The idea was welcomes by the tailors since different people from different places would have a chance to look at the different designs made.

The date was scheduled as 8th December, 2024, adverts were run on radios (just to expand audiences from different areas within Agago District.), and invitations were sent to various stake holders.

This was the very first fashion show in Adilang-Agago district. The day was well attended by all invited guests and different people from various communities. The feedbacks from the spectators about the event was unbelievable since they never expected beautiful tailored clothes to be made by their very own from the community. The event was graced by local dance groups within the community who entertained guests with Dingi-dingi and Laraka-raka dance (some of Acholi traditional dances).Sales and bookings were made for the clothes, this communicates a lot on how the objective of the show was attained already.

DPFL in Bernried, Bavaria – Germany

Two weeks shy of the famous Oktoberfest in the summer of 2024, Emmanuel and his wife Berna of Dongo Paco Foundation (DPFL) had the opportunity to visit the home village of HAU, the sponsor of DPFL, in Bernried, Bavaria-Germany. The stay was filled with several impressions of Munich city and its surroundings.

DPFL has its headquarters at the foot of Adoma Hills at elevation 1122m in Adilang, and this interested us in experiencing the Wank Mountain in Garmisch-Partenkirchen at an elevation 1780m. The Wank Mt with very developed pathways unlike the Adoma hills inspired us on the what could be improved on  Adoma hills to make hiking enjoyable and safe.

The highlight of the stay was the dinner at Hotel Seeblick in Bernried with about 40 members of Helfen am Ursprung. Emmanuel and Dr. Albert from the two organizations explained their achievements in the past years and the next step as they gear towards sustainability. The guest of honor at the dinner was the mayor of Bernried, Mr. George Malterer who shared his  experiences while in Adilang and expressed their commitment to embrace the future together with DPFL.

A special thanks to Dr. Albert and Robert for making the trip a success.
